SHSAA High School Scholarships - Policies & Terms

  • The applicant must be graduating from Salem High School in the school year of his or her application.
  • Students with “full rides”—defined as full tuition plus room and board—are not eligible for any SHSAA scholarship. This will also include appointments to a military academy. Students will be recognized for their Academic Merit and invited to the banquet.
  • Merit Scholarships may be prorated for certain situations. See Merit Scholarship application for complete information.
  • By the stated deadline, the applicant must provide an accurate and complete application plus a letter of acceptance from the college/university/institute/etc. he or she plans to attend.
  • Unless excused in writing by the Scholarship Committee Chairman, the recipient of a scholarship must attend the SHSAA’s Annual Reunion Banquet in order to receive the award.
  • If one or more of the preceding stipulations are not met, the award is forfeited.
  • Weighted GPA will be calculated by Salem High School using a 5-point scale for AP classes.
  • All decisions of the SHSAA Scholarship Committee are final and scholarships may be rescinded upon the recommendation of the SHSAA Scholarship Committee and with approval by the SHSAA Board of Trustees.
  • An applicant shall register his or her contact information using this online form.
  • Each scholarship will be disbursed in two checks. The first check will be available prior to the fall term and the second will be for distribution prior to the spring term.
  • A “vocational school or program” will also include students enrolling in an associate degree program at a college or university (hospitality, dental hygiene, nursing, etc.) This is in addition to students who enroll at schools or programs which are specifically vocational in nature.
  • Students may request a deferral of the scholarship money until a future year due to extenuating circumstances, or to reduce excess freshman awards. This must be requested within 6 months of the award and approved by the treasurer in coordination with the scholarship chair.
