June 22, 2013:
Class of 1971 celebrates 60th birthday bash

On June 22, 2013 the SHS Class of 1971 celebrated by throwing a 60th birthday bash for all former classmates. The attendees came from as far as Kansas and included Louisiana, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland as well as many from Ohio, Salem and the surrounding areas.

The occasion began by memorializing our deceased classmates. 26 names were read along with the birthdate and date of death. A candle was lighted for each and burned for the entire evening.

Group pictures were taken of the former classmates.

As the meal was served, people continued to reconnect. Even though some of us are connected through Facebook, it was just good to see each other again after 42 years. We had t-shirts available to purchase that evening and several raffles including a 50/25/25 won by Gary Cook who then donated part of it back to the class, 2 - $25 gift cards from Sports Connection and won by Jim Swetye and Steve Floor. Dorothy Drotleff Conser raffled off a wine rack custom made by her husband, Fred and was won by Ron and Lorna Lucas Hannay. Debbie Snyder McKinley donated a set Quaker Corn hole game boards custom made by her son, Scott McKinley. These were won by Christine Anderson Kutz. We had one custom made t-shirt left over and auctioned it off to the highest bidder. The lucky winning bidder was Richard Charnesky.

More group pictures were taken by Rex Gulafsen (husband of Classmate Linda Miglarini Gulafsen) and then everyone enjoyed a huge birthday cake.

The committee for the class consists of Dorothy (Drotleff) Conser, Debbie (Snyder) McKinley, Judy (Lydic) Davis, Marlene (Grimstad) Floor, Ron and Lorna (Lucas) Hannay, Jean (Kiliman) Esposito, Jim and Cris (White) Swetye and Scott McCorkhill.

Another breakfast was announced for late September or early October, 2013 with more information to follow.
